Andrew Beyer, a senior cross country runner, is up next for the Student Athlete Spotlights! So far, he’s been having a great season and has already dropped 33 seconds from his best time last year. He hopes to continue dropping more as the season goes on. Andrew’s biggest challenge was dealing with an injury earlier in the season but he has been able to move past it. He has been running since he  was eight years old and first joined cross country in sixth grade at Discovery Middle School. He plans on continuing running cross country after high school for a club team in college. Before a race, Andrew always sleeps on the way to the course, walks a lap around it, and listens to pump up music to prepare to run.beyer pic 2

Besides continuing to drop his time, another goal Andrew had was to have a group to race with so he didn’t have to run alone. The team’s biggest goal is to qualify for States as a team so they can bring seven runners to compete at that level. Andrew’s favorite moment this season was when Salem won the Marauder Invitational by one point! Beating Saline at that invitational was Salem’s most important victory so far this season. He’s looking forward to Championship Season because it’s great competition and makes racing much more exciting. Andrew’s favorite part of Salem Athletics is bringing all of the student athletes together to support a variety of sports. It’s always a great atmosphere when all the Salem athletes are cheering each other on. Good luck to Andrew and his team throughout the rest of their season!
