The Salem Rocks boys tennis team took it on the chin their cross campus rivals the Chiefs from Canton 7-2. Canton has probably their best team in years, but the Rocks managed to secure two flight victories.
Jason Zheng (S) fought hard but went down to Jacob Payton (C) 6-1, 6-3 at 2 singles.
Parshva Sanghvi (S) also lost to Kurt Seifert (C) 6-1, 6-2.
Sri Narayanan (C) took 4s with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ajay Bharathan (S).

Ryan The/Nihal Lingam (S) lost to Charvik Vaishnav/Vishwaas Nayak (C) at 2 doubles 7-5, 6-1.
At 3 doubles Salem was able to claim their only doubles victory with a three set win. Justin Kuhn/Neel Shah (S) bested Akshay Jalluri/Larry Lu (C) 2-6, 7-6, 10-6 (super tiebreak).
4d: Roenik Master/Rahul Rao (S) lost to Alex Zajdel/Sid Ganti (C) 7-5, 6-2.
5d: Ben Samoy/Jack Muktar (C) defeated Cal Smiley/Jack Nugent (S) 6-2, 6-3.
The match that everyone wanted to see featured Eric Liu (S) against Naeem Saleem (C). Naeem has a 3 star rating while Eric is set to become a 2star player. Liu jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set, but Saleem took the next four games to lead 5-4 at the change over. Liu tied it at 5-5, then took the next game to lead 6-5. Saleem battled back to force the tie break at 6-all. Both players fought through some long and exciting points as they see sawed toward the end of the set. Eric took advantage of his power and well placed shots to take the set 7-6 (7-5 in the breaker). By this time all the other matches were finished as well as all the JV matches, so with the Chief team on the hill at the north end of the court and the Rocks on the south end, the crowd settled in for at least one more set. Liu jumped off to a quick 3-1 lead and never relinquished it winning the second set 6-3 thus the match. Both combatants exhibited superior tennis strokes as well as strategy. They should play at least twice more this season…the conference tournament as well as regionals.
