Coach Dave Gerlach’s Comments: “Finally a beautiful day with perfect weather for racing. We knew going in that the host Dewitt was a very good team. They are currently ranked 1st in the state in Division 2. It was going to be hard to beat them on their home course but the girls were up for the challenge. After battling through three tough days of practice in 90 degree heat, the temperature dropped and everything aligned for a terrific day of racing. Flat course, 60 degree sunny weather and no wind. Attitude is a little thing that makes a huge difference and this week this team had such a focused positive attitude and it showed in their performance. I am hoping we can channel that focus to continue the next month of championships. There were so many great races today but I want to point out our top 3. Shea had a “breakout” race today. After battling to bouts of illness and an injury, she busted out with what we knew she was capable of. Reagan competes like a veteran athlete and truly RACES every competition with a fierce desire. Hallie is a student of the sport with very high goals that has worked her tail off to be successful. All three of these young ladies knew how talented Dewitt’s top three were and didn’t back down. They went right at them and performed with true grit and desire. I am very proud of this team and hope to continue our focus and desire.”
