Darby Scott will be the next athlete featured in the Alumni Spotlights! She was a part of the Class of 2017 and played both golf and basketball at Salem. Darby continued to golf in college and is currently playing at Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Though she has been having a great freshman year, the biggest challenge Darby has faced was moving 12 hours away from home. She loves the atmosphere of college because everyone is mature and always there for each other when they need it. Playing a college sport is different from high school athletics because you are focused on one sport for nearly the entire year. It’s a serious commitment and requires a lot of time and hard work. Darby’s love for the game and passion is what inspired her to play at the next level.
Looking back at her time at Salem, Darby misses her old teammates and office 2000! Her favorite memory as a Rock was getting to be on the SOSA board. It was a great experience helping to improve school spirit and having the chance to work with younger kids at the Youth Camp. SOSA and Salem Athletics helped prepare Darby for leadership roles in college and how to work well with her teammates. Her advice to current high school athletes is to do what you love and do it because it makes you happy! For athletes who plan on playing in college, Darby stresses the importance of finding the right school for you and not picking the school solely based on your sport. Though balancing school and sports can be challenging at times, the experience of getting to be a Student Athlete is well worth it! Salem Athletics wishes Darby good luck in the rest of her year at Methodist University!
