Luke Haran is one of this week’s student-athletes being spotlighted! Luke is a cross country runner and is nearing the end of his junior season. The team has been having a great season so far and the Rocks have been working hard to be so successful. They put in a ton of time over the summer and it will pay off in the next few weeks as the team competes in Conferences, Regionals, and States. Their biggest win was the Marauder Invitational. Salem beat Saline by one point during the Invitational, who was ranked second in the state at the time. Luke’s favorite memory from this season was the Ramblin’ Rock Invitational because it was great to see so many of his teammates PR during that race.
Luke has been running cross country since his freshman year and hopes to continue running at the collegiate level after high school. Before a meet, Luke always wakes up early, eats a good breakfast, and clears his mind. A personal goal he had this season was to break the sixteen minute barrier and as a team Salem would like to qualify for State Championships. The biggest challenge for their team this year has been trusting the process. They have to recognize that times will drop at the end of a season, not during the middle. Luke’s favorite part of Salem Athletics is how supportive all the teams are and how he is encouraged to be better every day.
