Rocks News · Wrestling 6th at Tough Clinton Tournament

The Salem Wrestling Team traveled to Clinton High School for the 43rd Annual Dave Elliot Invitational.   There were 18 teams, Salem took 6th place behind, Manchester, Tecumseh, Woodhaven, Clinton and Coldwater.

Salem was lead by a slew of placers, the highest being Heavyweight Jake Giorgi’s 2nd place.  Mason Opie (112 lbs.) and JaQuan Baker (152 lbs.) took 3rd, Ali Kobeissi (135 lbs.) took 5th, and Collin Schultz (119 lbs.) and Dom Valdivia (145 lbs.) took 6th.

“Overall I thought we did well in a very tough field of teams.  Every single team that finished ahead of us is ranked in the state as a team, so to finish just after those teams is a good feeling.  We have a small jump to make it we want to compete with those types of teams but a couple good weeks of practice and we could be there.   Jake Giorgi has been a hammer for us all year and lost to a tough kid in the finals.  JaQuan Baker had a good day as well taking third, and the only way to place high in these tournaments is to wrestle back from losses and we had quite a few take 5th and 6th which is good.  Everyone won at least a match today and that does your team well when it comes to team points.  We have a tough couple weeks coming , but with a good week of practice, this team is more then capable of achieving their goals.   -Head Coach Jeremy Henderson
