Michael Hoover will be featured in the next alumni athlete spotlight! He graduated from Salem in 2014 and is now playing football at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. Michael has wanted to play at the college level ever since he was a kid and is now living his dream. Salem Athletics helped Michael prepare for college football by teaching him to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. He learned how to fight through tough games, practices, and workouts. The camaraderie and lifelong friendships are his favorite things about being a college athlete. Michael misses the people and relationships he had at Salem. He still keeps in touch with Coach Brit and many of his teammates from Salem. His favorite memory as a Rock was when they beat Northville during his junior year because it was one of his biggest games and a huge team win to go 4-0. The biggest difference between a high school and college sport is the amount of time you have to put in. Michael says that playing in college feels like a job at times, but it’s very satisfying. The toughest part of his college seasons has been continuing to play despite losing games. During his first three college seasons, his team lost all but one game. This past season was extremely rewarding for Michael and his team as they were able to turn around the program and win eight games! His advice to Salem student-athletes is to enjoy your sport and believe. Believe in your teammates, the process, and most importantly, yourself.
