On February 16, 2016, the Salem Boys Bowling team competed for the KLAA Championship title. The Rocks came out on top, defeating Westland John Glenn in the finals with a score of 630 to 597. The Salem Girls Bowling team also competed, beating out Hartland and Wayne Memorial to face Westland John Glenn in the finals. Unfortunately, the team “fell a few pins short,” notes head coach Kathie Hahn. A season full of hard work and practice brought both teams to the KLAA Championship Conference finals.
The team has competed hard all season long, winning against Howell, Novi, Northville, Brighton and Canton. Coach Kathie Hahn says “all of the boys played key roles.” The team was lead by senior captain Joshua Hall and co-captain Noah Samuels.
KLAA Conferences was the only tournament the Salem Bowling Team had not won in the past. “We were there to prove we were strong and make a statement,” notes senior captain Joshua Hall. The team won a close game against Plymouth in the quarterfinals, beating them by 3 pins, to advance. Hall also says “The bowling team has taught me to never give up and with dedication and persistence, greatness is possible.”
Jaydon Kurowski notes the key moments of the tournament that made it possible, “beating John Glenn, Plymouth, and Canton who are our biggest rivals in other tournaments, which gave us a lot of confidence.”
Congratulations to the Salem Boys Bowling team on a KLAA Conference Championship win!
