Rocks News · Salem 4th out of 27 at Varsity Elks Tournament

The Salem Wrestling team took 4th out of 27 teams at their annual Salem Elks Varsity Tournament.  They finished behind 1st place Grand Blanc, 2nd place Melvindale and 3rd place Byron.  The Rocks were lead by 2nd place finishers DaQuan Baker (119) Ben Bennett (152), and JaQuan Baker (171).

“We were only 8 points from taking 2nd place.  We had the matches there to make up the gap but they just didn’t go our way.  It is not an effort thing with this team, which is a good thing cause I feel every match we lose we can be taught to win.  Effort is harder to teach then technique, so I am pretty happy with how we did.  I had underclassman like Brenden Best (160) winning his first varsity match ever and that matters in the team score stuff, and Ben Bennett (152) made his first finals appearance which was well deserved!  The team is on the rise, we just have to be able to come up in the clutch a bit more, and with experience by end of season I think we will be able to do that.  Clinton is our tournament Saturday.  This is the toughest schedule I have put together since I have taken over and our guys are going to be tested every single match this year.  They will be ready by the end, records are not going to show how good my guys are, not very many bad losses on anyone on my varsity and thats a good thing come end of the season!  -Head Coach Jeremy Henderson
