Coach Dave Gerlach’s Comments: “On a tough day with wind, cold, rainy, muddy conditions these ladies buckled up and ran with passion. It is an honor to qualify as a team for the State finals. There are many teams sitting at home wishing they were here. We had an outside box which was good for us so we did not get pinched at the first turn. Our first mile was a few seconds slower than I would have liked but it is very hard to maneuver with that many good runners in tight. The girls battled through the conditions to finish 18th to finish out another successful season. Shea Wilson and Bridget Nelson really stepped up today and showed true grit. Running in the State meet is like no other experience because everyone there is talented. Very proud of this team and their accomplishments.”

Coach Dave Gerlach Comments: “WOW, what a day to end our JV’s season. It was cold, but these girls went out with the goal of ending on a positive note. There was a huge number of season bests posted and a huge group of athletes bringing home medals. I was extremely happy to see the smiles of accomplishment on their faces afterward. This has been an awesome group to coach this year. ”

Game Recap

When the district draw was announced it was only fitting that we opened up against a team at the Park. I knew as a coach it wasn’t going to be an easy match up, we faced Plymouth last weekend at the conference tournament. We came out on the winning side of that match, it’s never easy to beat the same team twice. I couldn’t have been happier with the week of roactice going into districts, it gave us the chance to heal some injuries. We came out in the first match a little sluggish and ended up losing the 1st game. What happened next 3 matches was huge for us, we were able to win the next 3 games to win the match. I thought the girls came together and rallied for the victory. We play Novi at 7pm on Wednesday at Novi High School.

Coach Dave Gerlach’s Comments: “What a day. Cold, wind and a course that endured a full day of rain. That did not stop these girls from competing with passion. We had the strategy to run a solid first mile and then make our move by dropping the hammer in the middle. We wanted to be the hunter instead of the hunted. We overcame a full Oak Park team that cut us off and caused us to maneuver around for the first mile. Shea stepped up when it mattered most and ran the perfect race to earn a medal and be an individual state qualifier. Reagan Justice is a tremendous competitor and sets goals for herself every race. We set the goal of being in the top 10 as a freshman and she went after it also being a medal winner and individual State qualifier. Good teams step up when one of their own is having a rough day and today Bridget Nelson was that athlete. Very proud of all of these young ladies and we are looking forward to the opportunity to run in the State Finals for the 6th straight year as a team”.
