COMPETITION NOTES:
High School Cross Country is competitive distance running usually over grassy, hilly terrain conducted over courses of 5 kilometers. 5 kilometers is equivalent to 3.1 miles and 5,000 meters. It is a varsity team sport in which the first five competitors to cross the finish line score for their teams. Low score wins. The top 7 runners are considered Varsity. If two teams tie after 5 scorers, whomever’s 6th runner came in first, their team wins. The lowest score possible in Cross Country is 15pts. In a dual meet if a team finishes the first three places, mathematically there is no way to win. Weekday dual and double dual meets the entire team runs in one race. At Invitationals, there will be a Varsity race with 7 competitors per team (Some invitationals allow 10-14) and a Junior Varsity/ Reserve race where everyone else competes.
