The Salem Boys Cross Country team finished 5th place out of 33 teams on Saturday at the Jackson Invitational. The meet is one of the top in the State of Michigan each year, and this year was no different.
Salem was led by senior Luke Haran, who ran a new personal best 15:57 to finish 9th overall. Haran ran a very solid race, slowly moving up through the field to about 10th before his final kick moved him up another place. He now ranks #8 in Salem history.
Following Haran was sophomore Hezekiah Williams, who finished in 16:37 (32nd place), a new personal best by nearly 20 seconds. Williams is gaining confidence with each race and will continue to improve throughout the rest of the season. Williams ran at the front of the Salem pack in mile three, leading a quick succession of junior Bryce Paine, senior Christo Jeffers, senior Shane McKimmy, and sophomore Talha Syed, who each ran under 17:00. Freshman Luke Nelson closed out the scoring for Salem, finishing 110th place.
Ann Arbor Pioneer senior Nick Foster (the defending state champion) won the race individually in a time of 15:03.1.
