The Salem Boys Cross Country team finished as runners-up at today’s 19th annual Wayne County Championships, one point out of first place.

The Rocks were led by junior Talha Syed, who ran 15:43 (#3 in Salem history) to finish 6th overall. Junior Gary Gardella (16:18), junior Hezekiah Williams (16:50), junior Evan Wheeler (17:01), and sophomore Luke Nelson (17:06) also earned all-county honors by finishing in the top 35.

In the reserve race, Salem was led by freshmen Jack Leyden and Elliot Carey, who finished 5th and 6th, respectively (in new personal bests 17:33 and 17:37, #10 and #11 in school history for freshmen). Senior Kanden Cho (17:49) and sophomore Andrew Laesch (17:55) also broke 18:00 and finished in the top 20.

The Rocks will next compete on Tuesday and Canton and Plymouth at Willow Metropark – ran time is 4:45 pm.
