The Salem Boys cross country team won the 2019 Golden Grizzly Invitational at Oakland University yesterday. The Rocks finished with 39 points to win by over 50 points over their closest competitor, Troy (91 points).
The Rocks placed all five of their scorers in the top 16, led by the individual winner, junior Talha Syed. Sophomore Luke Nelson and junior Gary Gardella finished 2nd and 5th, respectively, and senior Bryce Paine finished 15th just ahead of junior Gavin Ray in 16th. Junior Evan Wheeler (25th), junior Hezekiah Williams (27th), sophomore Kyle Quint (40th), and freshmen Jack Leyden (46th) and Elliot Carey (49th) also competing in the varsity race.

Salem was led in the reserve race by senior Kanden Cho, who won the race individually. Junior Abhi Surampudi (4th), junior Alex Nessel (9th), and junior Paul Haran (10th) also finished in the top 10 of the 160 runners who competed in the race.
Salem next races on Saturday, September 7 at the Ramblin’ Rock Invitational at Willow Metropark.
