The Salem Boys cross country team won the 2019 Ramblin’ Rock Invitational on Saturday with a score of 36 points, slightly better than Hartland (41 points) in second.

The Rocks placed all five of their scorers in the top 30, led by the individual runner-up, junior Talha Syed in a new personal best 15:58 (#9 in school history). Junior Gary Gardella (16:33, #31 all-time) finished 4th and sophomore Luke Nelson (16:47, #44 all-time) finished 7th. Junior Gavin Ray (16:58), senior Bryce Paine (17:01), junior Evan Wheeler (17:26), and junior Hezekiah Williams (17:37) rounded out the top seven for the Rocks.

Also breaking the 18-minute barrier for the first time were freshmen Jack Leyden and Elliot Carey and sophomore Kyle Quint.

Salem next races on Tuesday, September 10 in a tri-meet with Novi and Howell at Cass Benton Park. Race time is 5:30 pm.
