Coach Dave Gerlach’s Comments:
“Championship competitions require athletes to step up all aspects for success. Today we didn’t have our mojo or look. I could tell something was different from the minute we boarded the bus. We had some more adversity and could not overcome it. In races like this everyone is amped up and in great shape. You need to get out at the start and settle in with a group of people to pull through the race. Our top two had terrific starts and did just that. Olivia and Marissa are athletes on a mission right now. From the gun they were focused and knew what they wanted to do. Olivia got out with a group of six who slowly broke apart through the race. Olivia then really raced smart through 2.5 and put the hammer down in the last quarter mile for Conference runner up. Marissa has been another unbelievable competitor. She got out hard and hung around the 10th place through mile two. Marissa came entered the woods with around a mile to go and turned up the pace. She had that look in her eye and really hunted through the finish line in 7th for 1st team all conference honors. Elizabeth MacLellan has been working extremely hard all year and continues to amaze us with yet another season personal best.”
