Canton High School vs Salem High School
8 1

Salem boys tennis fell to Canton Thursday 8-1. The score was not indicative of the caliber of play between these two teams. 4 if the 9 matches went to a third set with Salem only able to capture one of them, Nihal Lingam at 4 singles who topped Jack Mukhtar 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
2singles Jason Zheng fought hard before going down to Kurt Siefert in a hard fought match 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
3 singles Ajay Bharathan played a fine match before coming up short to Vishal Nayak 7-5, 6-4.
The 1doubles team of Andrew Clarke and Khush Patel played a competitive match against Vaishnav/V. Nayak in one of the 3 setters but fell 4-6, 6-5, 7-5.
Ryan Th’e and Rahul Rao played well, but fell short to Lu/Subbiah 6-2, 6-3 at 2 doubles.
Cal Smiley and Havish Poluru also went down to Jalluri/McCutcheon 6-3, 6-2 at 3 doubles.
The 4 doubles team of Parker Henderson and Ansh Dave fell to Lakhia/Singh 6-2, 6-0.
5 doubles, Amish Sabnis and Abdul Junaid lost to Christenson/Schall 6-3, 7-5.
The match of the day took place at 1 singles where junior Eric Liu battled Naeem Saleem for over 3 hours. Both combatants played an outstanding match of well calculated and hard hit points. By the third set both young men were feeling the exertion that went into some very long rallies. Cramps were affecting both. Liu was in command of the third set, up 5-2, before Saleem went on a run to tie at 5-5, then went ahead 6-5. Both started playing cautious tennis as Liu tied it at 6-6, forcing a tie break. Cramps set in and Saleem won the tie break 7-3. What a great match…would have made Bernie’s hi-light film.
